Wildlife around the Cottage

Wildlife abounds at West Feal all year round. Depending on the season you may be lucky enough to see or more likely hear our annual visitor, the secretive cuckoo.  He lets us know his presence from morning till dusk with his mellow call. You will also see and hear chattering redwings and fieldfares on the farmland.

Swallows and house martins visit every summer and daily visitors to the feeders are goldfinches, siskins, bramblings, redpolls, coal, blue and great tits with goldcrests and green and greater spotted woodpeckers in the woods nearby. Sparrowhawks, kestrels, buzzards, peregrines and newly introduced sea eagles are all seen regularly in the vicinity.

Brown hare and roe deer can be seen daily in the fields surrounding WestFeal with the occasional glimpse of badgers and fox.  Red squirrels and pine martins are resident in the forestry on Bishop Hill.
